Construction Team
The team returned in February to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guyana Camp and Retreat Center for the 4 th time and completed the reconstruction of the Camp. During this work event the team celebrated with sisters and brothers in Guyana in the rededication of the Camp and Retreat Center.
Music Education Program
Sarah DeMoss, a 2004 graduate of St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, was in Guyana February through April with a wonderfully successful 11-week Music Education Program experience in New Amsterdam. During May to July music teachers from the University of Dayton, Annette Fritzsche and Katie May were in New Amsterdam to continue the music education in the Berbice region. Annette and Katie were the 9th and 10th music teachers to continue the Music Education Program. Vicki Smith, Director of Music Ministries at Fellowship Lutheran Church, started this program in 1999.
World Mission Week
The featured speaker, our missionary to us, was Mr. Michael Ram, a member of the Executive Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guyana. He was with us September 13-22 and provided us the opportunity to clarify our own priorities as we assess the stewardship of resources entrusted to us by God.
October Team
This 18 member team focused on 4 major areas: (1) Sewing instruction at Skeldon to engage women of Emmanuel Parish in collective activity; (2) Diabetes Education Program to assist in case finding and complication prevention, Pastor/Dr. Richard Young held teaching clinics in Georgetown, at Mt. Zion/Sand Hills (Demerara River), and in the Corentyne; (3) a nurse-educator from the College of Nursing, U. of Oklahoma, Tulsa, met with clinical nurses and nurses in the Ministry of Health to explore nursing education needs; and (4) Behavioral Health Outreach teaching in New Amsterdam.
